Excel Forms: Collect Responses Straight into Your Spreadsheet

Excel forms in Ovoform write each completed response as a new row in a table inside your Microsoft Excel workbook on OneDrive. You get conditional logic, scoring, payments and AI form building on the front, and a spreadsheet that fills itself on the back.

No credit card required. Unlimited responses. The Excel integration is included with Business and Enterprise plans.

What you can do with Ovoform and Microsoft Excel

Append

One new row for every response

Each completed submission is added to an Excel table named OvoFormResponses. You never export a file, paste rows or check whether someone already copied the latest batch.

Choose

A new workbook or one you already use

Let Ovoform create a workbook in your OneDrive, or pick an existing .xlsx file. If the sheet already holds a table with headers, Ovoform reuses it.

Grow

Columns that follow your form

Columns are created for you: a response ID, a submitted-at time and one column per question. Add a question and a column is added, and rename a question and its header is updated in place.

Backfill

Responses from before you connected

Send existing responses to the workbook when you connect, or run a resync later. Rows are sent in batches of 50, oldest first.

How the Microsoft Excel connection works

  1. Connect your Microsoft account

Sign in with Microsoft and allow Ovoform to read and write files in your OneDrive.

  2. Pick or create a workbook

Choose an existing Excel file from your OneDrive, or have Ovoform create a new one for this form.

  3. Publish and submit a test

Ovoform prepares the table and its headers. Submit a test response and check that the row appears.

  4. Analyze in Excel

Build pivot tables and charts on a separate sheet that reads from the table, and let new responses keep flowing in.

Coming from Microsoft Forms?

If you searched for Microsoft Forms to Excel, the workflow you want is the same: a form on one side and a spreadsheet that fills itself on the other. What changes is what sits in front of the sheet. Ovoform adds conditional logic, scoring, payments, AI-generated forms and your own branding, and it does not cap responses on any plan, including Free.

The trade-off to know about is where the data lives. Ovoform writes to workbooks in your own OneDrive. It does not write to SharePoint document libraries or shared drives.

What syncs, and what to know

Each completed response is queued after it is saved and appended to the workbook shortly afterwards, so respondents never wait on Microsoft. If a write fails, Ovoform retries twice, about one and three minutes later, before flagging the integration. Rows are appended to the OvoFormResponses table. The columns are a response ID, a submitted-at time, then one per question, and file-upload answers are written as their links, separated by commas.

Column setup is automatic. There is no manual mapping screen, because Ovoform manages the table itself. Ovoform writes rows by column position, so keep the table structure as it is: do not reorder or delete its columns, and do not add your own columns inside it. Put calculations, pivot tables and charts on a separate sheet that references the table instead.

The connection works with files in the OneDrive of the account that signed in. SharePoint libraries and shared drives are not supported. Excel does not reload a workbook you already have open on every change, so refresh the file to see the newest rows.

If something goes wrong, the integration shows an error status in Ovoform, and the respondent still sees your normal thank-you screen. A revoked Microsoft authorization, or a workbook that has been deleted, stops syncing until you fix it, and responses that did not arrive can be sent again with a resync.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

OneDrive only. Ovoform reads and writes files in the OneDrive of the Microsoft account that connected. Workbooks stored in SharePoint document libraries or on shared drives are not supported, so keep the workbook in a OneDrive folder that account owns.

Yes. Every completed response is appended as a new row in the OvoFormResponses table. Ovoform does not update or remove existing rows, so editing a row in Excel does not change the response in Ovoform. Ovoform also guards against writing the same response twice when it retries a failed write.

You can choose an existing .xlsx file from your OneDrive. Ovoform reuses a table that already has headers, or creates the table in the sheet. Columns are managed automatically, one per question, rather than mapped by hand, so a workbook with its own column layout is not a good target.

Shortly after each submission. Writes go through a background queue rather than a schedule, and failed writes are retried. If you have the workbook open, refresh it to see new rows, because Excel does not always reload a file that is already open.

Ovoform writes rows by column position, so adding your own formula columns inside the response table can misalign later rows. Keep the table as Ovoform created it and put formulas, pivot tables and charts on a separate sheet that reads from the table.
